Panzer III Conversion

The Germans used remote control robot tanks in WWII.

This Panzer III is one of the control tanks for those remote control robot tanks.

The box on the back of the turret is to house the extra radio gear to control the robot. The robot was carrying a massive explosive charge on the front. It would be directed to drive up to a pillbox, drop the charge, drive away and then explode the charge and blow up the pillbox.

I added a Plastruct box to the back of turret after cutting off the smaller storage box. I added antennas for the radios. They worked in platoons of three and a company of ten tanks.

German Remote-Control Tank units 1943-1945 by Markus Jaugitz has a photo on page 17. http://store.spruebrothers.com/product_p/chc6510.htm

Cyber-Hobby makes one in 1/35th scale. Photos of the completed model are pretty common on line.
