Cowboy Buildings

This is an unusual little building. It is a solid block of plaster. The building is a powder magazine. In the wild west military bases would have a magazine to hold powder for cannons and rifle ammo. They would also have magazines at mining operations to blow up rock for hard rock mining.

The model is all white plaster when you get it, I used Testors gray primer paint to prime it. I also used the same primer as the mortar for the rock buildings.

No wild west scenario is complete without a saloon. They served as drinking holes, meeting places, restaurants, and sometimes even courtrooms.

Last year there were over 20,000 murders in the United States. In 1900, at the close of the old west, there were only 250 murders, with a third of the population. The murder rate was vastly less back then, even when you consider that nearly every man went about armed whenever he chose to do so, and there were very few law enforcement officers. A gun store is important in an old west town. One of my favorite John Wayne movies is Eldorado and there is a nice scene in a gun shop, and I like having this building because it reminds me of that motion picture.
