Cold War SPAA

Until Robert Petner of Petner Panzers came out with their T-72 tank we did not have much in the way of opponents for our US Army Cold War M60 tanks and later M1 Abrams tanks from Roco. This HO scale beauty is a nice little vehicle and still holds up well after many years as a wargame vehicle.

The Soviet Union developed an AA gun version that was very similar to the West German Gepard AA tank. AA guns were a popular way to defend armored columns against helicopter attack and could also provide limited ground support too.

These T72s have had modified Roco Gepard turrets grafted onto them so that they can support my miniature Evil Empire in their rush into the Fulda Gap.

I have a platoon of four of these deadly guns and they make a nice and fast addition to any Soviet Collection. Attack helicopters are very dangerous weapons systems, in the conventional phases of the war against Iraq they killed many enemy tanks, and would certainly have been widely used in a NATO vs Warsaw Pact confrontation.

The Petner Panzer T72 tank is sold under the Trident name in hobby shops. Try www.fidelismodels.com if he does not have them he can probably get them. The Roco Gepard is also sold by them and in many hobby shops, mostly model RR stores.

Thanks M60A3TANKER. I like those quick and easy ones, particularly when making those massive wargame armies.
